Paris Room Before and After
Back in July I had a client contact me about helping her finish up a room in her apartment in Paris. Umm.... yes!
Meaghan is living in Paris while her husband is stationed there with the military. The room was overwhelming to her because of the size. She really wanted a little bit more color and personality in the room.
This is what we started with. Not too bad. The floors and fireplace are so beautiful. She already had most of the furniture and she wanted to keep her curtains if we could. So I came up with a plan that would add some color to this already beautiful room.
Here is the design board.
Working across the world proved to be rather difficult. Meaghan was a dream client to work with but the time differences made communication take longer. We also couldn't get a lot of things shipped from the U.S. to Paris. But we worked together to get the room together.
Here it is now!
We went through many different rug options but ultimately decided on FLOR tiles. These were perfect for shipping overseas. Plus my client loves them. This rug really was the key in getting the room anchored.
We were going to go with a tufted West Elm settee but my client was walking through Paris and saw this one in a shop window! It's beautiful and it was great we didn't have to worry about shipping it. The pillows are from Z Gallerie.
My client had two Louis style chairs that she wanted to recover. We chose this vibrant red fabric.
This project was one of the highlights of my business so far. To know that I could help someone so far away from me in Paris finish a space that she now loves is really amazing to me. It's also fun that we didn't have to add too much to this room or spend too much money to really turn it around and make it feel more homey for my client.

West Broad Village Home Gallery Named Best Design Center in North America, A local home builder picked up a national award for their Short Pump home design center at West Broad Village earlier this month. The National Sales and Marketing Council (NSMC) of the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) honored Eagle Construction of VA at the 2012 National Sales and Marketing Awards, The Nationals.
The ceremony was held on Wednesday, February 8th, 2012 at The Peabody Hotel in Orlando, Florida.
The Nationals honors superior sales and marketing achievements by individual professionals, homebuilders and sales and marketing councils.
Eagle Construction’s Home Gallery won the gold award for the Best Design Center in North America. Silver finalists include Design Centers located in Canada, North Carolina and Texas. The Gold Award is determined by some of the industry’s finest marketing professionals in a three-day judging process that evaluates the overall theme, function, display concept, creativity and design used in the Design Center.
Located in West Broad Village, Eagle’s Home Gallery is a place for home buyers to plan and craft their new home to reflect their personality. This 4,000 square foot facility displays the latest trends in appliances, technologies, products and interior design, ranging from modern and simplistic to old-world and ornate.
Numerous selections are displayed throughout the gallery in any of the 4 full kitchens, 3 full baths, 3 half baths, laundry room and 5 expansive selections galleries that include countertops and cabinetry, flooring, exterior finishes, media/fireplaces and lighting.

New Pillow Love
Look at this beautiful new pillow from World Market. It looks eerily similar to the pillow I have in my Living room.
I've had a lot of emails about my floral pillows and they are no longer available for sale at Pottery Barn so snatch up those World Market pillows while you can!

Real Art for Everyone
Everyone should own "real" art that moves them -- an original piece of art that speaks to who you are and makes you happy when you look at it. Art does not need to match your decor exactly and the best art compliments your space; it stays with you for life and is like a treasured friend.
Growing up, our house was filled with original art work -- with work by my painter mother and her artist friends. To get the work she loved, my mother would trade her paintings or when she had the cash, she would buy art (she still does) like others buy shoes and bags. None of the work matched her decor or even each other, she collected each piece for its unique beauty and the sheer joy it gave her.
You don't have to be filthy rich to own original art (or good reproductions) by American painters. In fact, many pieces can be acquired for unbelievably low prices directly from the artist. And while you can buy from artists online through their websites (usually notoriously out-dated if they have them) there is nothing like seeing the brush strokes and color of a painting in person. Today, the absolute best place to buy original art work is at "street" art shows or "art festivals." The artists who show on the "street" sell to galleries and some even have their own small galleries; but the prices at the art shows just can't be beat. Lots of cities and resort towns have art shows, just check the local papers or an artist trade magazine called "Sunshine Artist" http://www.sunshineartist.com/shows/.
This weekend my mom and I dropped in on the show in downtown Sarasota, Florida. There were so many talented artists that I had to share some of the best with you.
