Mother's Day Printable

Today I am excited to share this Mother's Day printable that Diana has come up with! I love her reasoning for picking this quote and I'm sure all our Mothers could use this reminder that they are doing a good job!

I've been thinking a lot about Motherhood and what it means to me exactly especially since Mother's Day is just in 2 weeks.  I think moms all around the world set expectations for themselves that are just too hard to meet and we beat ourselves down.  The best days for me as a mother, are when I become more involved in my kids lives rather than trying hard to get everything done.  I heard this quote a few weeks ago and it has stuck with me ever since.  I feel like we are amazing mothers and there are SO many ways to be one.  This print is downloadable in an 8x10 size and would make a great gift for any mother in your life because we all feel this sense of overwhelming task we have to complete in order to be the best mom! Happy Mother's Day and enjoy this free downloadable print!

Diana is a graphic designer running her own shop called Livy Love Designs.  She loves using fresh color schemes and bright patterns.  She enjoys drawing, sewing, and learning new recipes.  She is married and has two little kids who she attributes where most of her inspiration comes from.  Aside from her shop, she has recently started working with Modern Yardage and is a fabric designer for them, which has been a dream of hers ever since she started graphic design.  You can follow along with her blog at Livy Love.

Tony Duquette

On of the really enjoyable showrooms at Highpoint this year was Baker --  especially fabulous were the Tony Duquette and Michael S. Smith vignettes and it wasn't just that they were serving cocktails...

Below are the pictures I snapped of some of the selected pieces of the late, great, Tony Duquette (1914-1999).   An acclaimed designer and artist, Duquette is considered a style icon whose now pricy works were never available during his lifetime to the public.  Discovered in  the 1940's by Elsie de Wolfe, he was a multi-talented designer and whose works were chosen by the Louvre to represent the decorative arts of the mid-20th Century.  In his neo-Baroque interiors, Duquette used discarded everyday items to imitate the  luxurious and expensive: He transformed lemon squeezers into golden finials, cardboard egg cartons into coffered Moorish ceilings, and bunches of spray-painted twigs into coral reef centerpieces.

Duquette was a true genius whose design legacy continues through his company under the direction of Hutton Wilkinson,  his longtime business partner and biographer.  You can read more about him here.    If anyone out there is shopping for a gift (hint hint), you might want to consider either of these Tony Duquette books:   More Is More: Tony Duquette, by Hutton Wilkenson or Tony Duquette, by Wendy Goodman (both published by Harry Abrams in 2009 and 2007 respectively.  Enjoy!

If you follow me on instagram (@kirstenkrason) you know that we spent most of last week in St. George, Utah. It was delightful. We spent our time hiking, swimming and hitting up cool vintage shops! More Celerie Kemble

As a follow up to an earlier post, I had to share these photos of Celerie Kemble's Kips Bay 2011 Showhouse, which, sadly I did not see in person.  The room is wonderful with just the right amount of drama and layering and it is worth seeing again.  These photos are from that fabulous blog, Habitually Chic -- check out her original post, she has many shots of the room.  The showstopper is the Verre Eglomisé "Sky" Ceiling created by Miriam Ellner.   Verre eglomise is the ancient technique of coating the reverse of a piece of glass adding metal leaf, adding color and etching patterns into it.  Stunning.
Love the pink chaise.

Some more of Celerie Kemble's accessories for Maitland-Smith...well done.

I can never have enough trays.

Wonderful octagonal mirror

Great sconces

lovely game table

Feature Friday: The Lilypad Cottage

Today I am featuring the home of Kelly from the blog, The Lilypad Cottage. Here is what she says she loves most about her home:

"The thing I love most about my home is that it's located on the lake where I spent all my summers growing up.  My parents live down the street and my brother a few doors down, so we are surrounded by family.  After living in all over the place the last few years and moving multiple times, it was great to come back home and put down roots.  We were so blessed to design and build the house to fit our family perfectly and I'm so happy my kids get to spend their childhood splashing in the lake too!"

Enjoy!
