Small Living Room Design

If you have a small living room, chances are you also have small furniture and fixtures to match. But this doesn't have to be your final resort if you do have a small living room. Designing a small living room may be a challenge, but it is quite fulfilling when you see the finished product of a small living room design that fits your small space and lifestyle.

1. Use lighter shades of green, blue and yellow for your walls. These lighter colors or pastels help open up the room and give it a more airy feel. If you want a cozier feel to your living room, use darker shades of red, blue and brown.

2. To help further open up the room, use mirrors and glass table tops. Mirrors reflect light and give the illusion of a larger room. Make sure that the mirror reflects a view or an ornamental item to enhance the room. Use glass table tops to give your small living room an open feel, rather than using hard wood table that further shrinks the room.

3. Avoid using heavily printed upholstery for your seating and sofa. Use light, monochromatic colors that match. Avoid mix and match of colors as well, as it makes the room look smaller and tight.

4. Use light gauzy and filmy fabrics for your window treatments. These fabrics let natural light pass through and adds more personality to your living room. Do not overdo and avoid using heavily printed fabrics in a small living room design.

5. If you want to accessorize your small living room, choose the items that will compliment your furniture and fixture. And make sure these items are also functional to help you keep the room spacey and clutter-free.

6. Choose the right-sized fixtures and accessories. Do not over-decorate your small living room; instead, look for items that will help make the room look bigger. Choose reflective items such as a good-sized glass-top coffee table, a wall mirror and a few functional items that add style and class to your small living room design.

Modern Bedroom Ideas

Modern bedroom ideas are many and nowadays with every one trying to make their bedrooms special they are very much in vogue. After all moving on with the times is a demand made upon us at all times and therefore if instead of Egyptian of roman themes in our bedrooms we try and put something more contemporary, something modern then there is no harm in it.

In fact toady, there is a big market for cubist designs in bedrooms and they are thought to provide the much needed peace that people wish to find in their bedroom.

Modern bedroom ideas actually do not just involve painting your walls in a certain pattern but it also involves furniture and furnishings for your room, all of which adhere to a particular style. Now, if you are inclined towards setting up your bedroom in a modern style then you would have to go for a minimalist outlook. Modern furniture is very simple and straight in design. It will never be very ornate or intricate to say the least.

Mostly, it will either be flat cubic structures or even twisted but simplistic deigns that stand out on their own. Like, you might have a chair which has no legs but is actually in the shape of an S, a really broad S. You get what I am trying to say here?

So keeping in with this idea you would have to model your modern bedroom ideas. Get furniture that has simple outlines, come in solid colors etc. Also to go with it, the bed spread etc also has to attend to the matter of modernity. Like you cannot have pillows that go with water beds but you need to have ones which have basic geometric shapes and are not just sacks of fluff.

You would even have to be careful about the shades you use in your room or even the curtains. Solid colors are the best for modern bedroom ideas but simple geometric patterns are also in fashion.

Feature Friday: Cape 27

Today I am featuring the fresh and bright home of Jessie from the blog Cape 27.  If you have been following my blog for awhile you may remember her original home tour on my blog here. I'm so excited that she is back with a new and improved home tour! Here is what she says she loves most about here home.

When we choose pieces for our home we try to steer clear of anything "style" specific. I could say that I like classic pieces with rustic, industrial, and vintage mixed in, but really it's just anything that feels right at the time. My heart definitely has to be in it. So as far as what I love about our home, it's knowing that each and every piece represents us, and what we're drawn towards, not just decor that fits into a certain "style". I love that everything isn't necessarily meant to go together!

Enjoy!

Where to Put Small Lamps

My friend Chelsea of Yours Truly recently approached me the chance to participate in a "white box challenge" as a part of her new online home accessory & furnishings store, Joy & Revelry.

She picked an item from her shop and sent it to three bloggers with the challenge of incorporating the item into their homes. The trick was that none of us knew what the item would be!

I was ecstatic when a pair of tiny lamps showed up on my doorstep.

This set of Katie Mini Ball lamps is beautiful. I knew I could find a way to incorporate them into my home but where! I played around with them in a few different places but the small scale just didn't fit any of my usual places.

Finally I decided that they needed to be on teeny tiny tables! I am slowly working on transforming my office into an office/guest room. These lamps are perfect on these small scale tables I picked up at Target.

Our loveseat is a sleeper sofa and the tables act as nightstands when we have guests over.

I added some of my design books on the table to prop up the lamps and give them more substance. I love how they look like pretty jeweled accessories on my tables.  My $50 clearance Target tables look so much more expensive with these pretty lamps on top of them.

See where Emily Clark put her lamps here

To learn more about Chelsea you can watch a short video on her site here.  And, if you’d like to do some shopping, she’s offering 10% off with this promo code: YT_WHITEBOX_10 (expires Aug. 1st, 2013).

Utah Valley Parade of Homes - A Feast for the Eyes

Check out past posts about the Salt Lake Parade of Homes herehere, here and here

Are you guys ready for this visual feast! I will warn you this post is long and it will probably take forever to load but it is worth it!

Just in case you don't make it though the whole thing I am going to give you the best stuff first. This year my favorite house in the Utah Valley Parade of Homes, by far, was designed by Caitlin Creer & Alice Lane Home Collection and built by Millhaven Homes. This is a dream combo. Caitlin Creer is a good friend of mine plus an incredible talent and Alice Lane is so near and dear to my heart. The following pictures were photographed by the incredibly talented and artistic Hiya Papaya Photography. You must check out their blog for even more interior goodness.

Get ready to drool...

Amazing no? Everything else sort of seemed to pale in comparison but, as usual, I loved both of the Ivory Homes

You can always count on an amazing Schumacher duvet cover.

This next home was done by Osmond Design

This next one was designed by Four Chairs Furniture.

I only had one day to see the Parade so I missed  a lot of houses! Hopefully I'll make it to more homes for the Salt Lake Parade of homes this year.
