Hotel Swimming Pool Ideas for Safety and Revenue

Hotel swimming pool
Hotel Swimming Pool

Hotels are often some of the best-designed locations we can visit. Sometimes they can be more than the worst. Many hotel and paid accommodation swimming pools cost a lot to maintain, and go under-utilized. A swimming pool can make or break how your customers feel about your hotel. Here are some useful ideas that will put any of your customers in a great mood, and turn your swimming pool area into a cash machine.
Areas and Separation. It is always a good idea to separate types of people in your hotel swimming pool to make the most out of it. If you don’t have more than one pool, breaking it up is your solution. Families and other entertainment don’t always mix. Both are very important to your business. Allow different areas for different purposes when necessary.
Entertainment Area. Hotels can make great money from holding smaller events. Some of the hotels I have visited in Dubai make huge money from regular ‘clubbing events’. These hotels are all 5 star, just in case you were wondering. And yes, they make a lot of money from more than weekly ‘dance’ styled parties. Having the features to incorporate a dance floor, stage and lighting, will certainly boost business. Look at sound reduction issues if they are necessary for your hotel. Outdoor pool related parties can be a huge money spinner for any hotel.
Food and Beverage. More of an issue than what you will be selling, but consider how you will be selling it. Attractive and safe cutlery and glasses are available. It might look fancy to have classic items, but even a broken teapot can cut someone’s foot. Something that has happened to me, I might add.
Lessons. Whether a guest is someone staying at your hotel, or someone who is living nearby, swimming lessons could mean a regular income from your swimming pool. We are all looking for assistance in the gym, and so why not apply this same strategy to your swimming pool?
Bookings. Have you thought about booking out the whole pool and venue? This can be a huge money spinner for private and even corporate events.
Surface Safety. There is nothing worse than plain old concrete. There are a range of modern options that give you a huge amount of grip, safety and that great look. Sandstone pavers naturally offer grip, longevity and a classic feel. The look of water and sandstone is just right. If you must go with concrete, you should think about the application of anti-slip coatings. You can choose your color, and you know your guests will be safe.
Life Guards. Do you really want to risk something going wrong? Many hotels have signs and agreements that guests swim at their own risk. If something goes wrong, your hotel will be stuck with the reputation for years. It may turn a lot of people away from your hotel
Are you making the most out of your hotel’s swimming pool? If it is too much for you to handle internally, consider outsourcing management, and having a financial arrangement that guarantees you a minimum monthly return and additional profit share.

Home Interior Design

Interior Design Ideas

If you like the idea of coming to your home interior design, you’re not alone. Lots of folks these days are planning out and then executing its home interior design. But how did you come up with great home interior design ideas? Here are some suggestions to get you started. Probably one of the easiest ways to get home interior design ideas is just a TV these days. There are many shows that we are totally committed to the transformation of the entire house room space.

Interior Design Ideas_1
The biggest problem with watching them on television is having something in front of you to the documents. So a few home interior design ideas that may help out is available on the pen and paper to take notes as you go, and also to save the program to view later. Although you can get some great home interior design ideas for the home interior design television shows, ask yourself whether they are suitable for your particular home. Just because they look great on TV someone else’s home, does not mean that it would be well suited to your home interior design.

So try to visualize the entire project from start to finish in his house. And plan, plan, plan. Taking additional precautions already in the planning stage, you can no longer guarantee a problem free application. But television is not only for home decoration information and ideas on home interior design. There are several great books on the home interior design subject, that the designers are able to help almost any background and experience level. The advantage of books is that the documentation is already done.

It is usually very well thought out plan for the implementation of any home interior design of their pages. And usually you can get more than enough photos and pictures that will help you get a good mental picture the process as it goes.

Bri and the Flea

Don't you love how the post title rhymes? It sounds kind of like a fairytale. Well, it did have a happy ending. I met up with Bri at the Flea Market Friday morning, and she surprised me with this birthday gift . . .
Does this paper look familiar? See one of Bri's recent posts.
Even her wrapping paper and ribbon has great style. Like a kid I ripped it open to reveal this . . .
Yes, I got a Bri original. Can you believe it? It's so pretty! I might have hinted once or twice (or 25 times) that I love her art and would love to have a piece of my own. She picked up on my subtlety. I can't wait to find a frame and the perfect spot for it! Thanks so much, Bri!

We had been at the Flea Market for maybe fifteen minutes when we ran into Eddie Ross. I was a little starstruck.
This is a photo of Eddie at the Charlotte Flea, not Nashville. We were too starstruck to ask for a photo.
If you've been living under a rock, Eddie is famous for many things - being the 1st runner-up on Bravo's Top Design (which is sadly no longer with us), being an editor for Martha Stewart Living and now he has a column running in Southern Living where he visits flea markets across the South looking for furniture and accessories to make over. So, this past weekend it was Nashville. And I spotted him while wading through some mud. He was very sweet and chatted with us for a minute about Bri's recent $2 rattan side table purchase. Very nice guy. Now on to the finds.

I only came home with one thing, but there were lots of goodies to be had . . .
I actually saw this chair at an estate sale and passed on it because of the price. It's in great shape, just wasn't for me.
This vintage sofa was a wonderful chartreuse green/yellow and in great condition. Alas, no room even in the booth.
Cool lidded pottery dish marked McCoy. I've never seen one quite like this. Maybe should have gotten this one.

This great spun fiberglass set. Pretty good price. Once again, wouldn't go with my house. Reminded me of this:
from House Beautiful.
And this was a great, little delicate wingback chair for just $10. Alas, it was not be. I don't have the time or budget to re-do one more thing!

So, what did I make it home with? I know you'll be shocked, but it was another piece of Chinoiserie/Asian furniture. . .
I can't help myself. I think I might require a 12-step program. It's a vintage Lane cabinet with brass hardware. The only glitch? It reeks of smoke. Here it is sitting on my screened-in porch, airing out. I followed some tips online about how to get rid of the smell. Not sure it helped 100%, but maybe a little. It's currently sitting in my living/family room. Not sure if it will remain there or move to my bedroom, but I really like it, and for $30 I think it was a great day at the Flea!

Happy Memorial Day!

Today is the Day . . .

I was born 38 years ago, and I've been craving one of these all day!
I'm old or young depending on your perspective. I'm going for young. Although, I think I could definitely benefit from some Botox. And I've decided just today that I'm too old to shop at Forever 21. I keep trying but I end up looking ridiculous in most things. I guess I'm not really Forever 21. They lied.

In honor of my big day, my husband is taking me to see this later . . .
at my request. I can't pass up a crass, laugh-out-loud film on my birthday. When I saw the release date was May 26, it was a done deal.

I might also indulge in one of these . . .
Oh, and my sweet husband surprised me with one of these . . .

The iPad 2. I'm not exactly tech-savvy so I'm not sure of the capabilities, but it's really cute. And now I get to pick out a cover. Yeah! Here are some options I've already run across . . .
One of these leather cases from Dewdrop Designs by Gillian Stevens. She also has a wonderful blog called Ticklish from a Distance which is quite inspirational.
Or this Mumbai print case from Stephanie Johnson.
I'm sure there are other options as well, I just need more research time.

And I leave you with this . . .

Home Bathroom Renovation

New Home Bathroom
"The bathroom is the new trophy room," says Janice Costa, editor of Kitchen & Bath Design News. "Whereas it used to be a very private space, it has become more of a reflection of people's personal tastes." She says about 45 million home bathrooms in the country have remained unaltered since 1970, a number that is dropping faster than ever as homeowners rush to transform their plain old water closets into elegant showrooms of form and function.

EXPERT METHODS.  For an impressive bathroom, it's best to consult the experts. Architects, interior designers, remodeling contractors, and plumbing contractors may all be necessary for the most complex of projects, but an increasing number of homeowners are employing full-service design firms that both plan the room and make it come to life. Covenant Kitchens & Baths in Westbrook, Conn., will inspect the layout of your home, work with you on a custom bathroom that suits your needs and budget, and construct it for about $5,000 to $30,000. The desire for more or better utilized space, says Covenant designer Kira Van Deusen, is a common priority for many of its clients.

New Home Bathroom_1

"Many times, bathrooms are small and like a puzzle, [and] the pieces can only fit in one particular way. We tend to investigate adjoining rooms to see if we can beg, borrow, or steal from the space to enlarge the bathroom," says Van Deusen. For a recent project in Branford, Conn., Covenant removed a wall to combine a small bathroom with a neighboring dressing room. Workers enlarged the window, added a whirlpool tub, shower, and vanities, and installed richly colored mahogany cabinets.
New Home Bathroom_2
HOMAGE TO HOTELS.  Customers of Covenant and other bathroom remodeling professionals frequently want to emulate in their own home the design styles they notice in hotels, resorts, and other upscale commercial bathrooms. As a result, the hotel room innovations of top-dollar design firms have come to bear heavily on trends in residential design. High-end and high-tech bathroom implements, such as chromatherapy (color-changing) tubs, mirrors with LCD television screens, fireplaces, and heated towel racks—once luxuries reserved for the vacation or business trip—are becoming a more affordable part of everyday life.

New Home Bathroom_3
Hotels have good reason to invest heavily in top-notch bathrooms, according to Ariane Steinbeck of Gettys interior design firm, which specializes in resorts and hotels. "About 80% of the waking time that's spent in a hotel room is spent in the bathroom," she says. "When [people] go to resorts or hotels, they want to be inspired about things they can use at home." But the relationship between hotel and residential bathroom design works both ways. "As people spend more time in hotels, you're seeing more hotel baths take on a home-like or personalized look to get away from that sterile, institutionalized feel that some hotel baths have," says Costa of Kitchen & Bath Design News. She says natural textures, such as wood and stone, and warm earth tones have made the leap from the home bathroom to the upscale commercial bathroom.
New Home Bathroom_4
THE DESIGN DIFFERENCE.  And then there are designers who seem to take the evolution of bathroom design entirely into their own hands. For a bathroom that looks like it's from another planet, take up residence in one of the few remaining apartments at Jade, a 57-unit building in New York's Chelsea neighborhood. The latest project of celebrity heiress-cum-jeweler Jade Jagger and real estate developer Michael Shvo, Jade takes space utilization to another level with its "Pods," large metal cubes that open on one side to reveal a full bathroom with fixtures by Waterworks, on the opposite side a small kitchen, and on the end a closet with washer and dryer.
Modular Home Bathroom Design
Despite a perplexed response from the New York real estate community, Shvo says the Pods have given the building's studios and one- and two-bedroom units a competitive edge. "A creative bathroom design should always be top of mind for real estate developers.… [The Pod] is not something you can buy at Home Depot and plunk into your apartment. It has to be designed," he says.Whatever route you choose to go when planning your new bathroom, don't be afraid of committing to a large investment. According to the research of Kitchen & Bath Design News, midrange bathroom renovations are currently returning homeowners an average of 102.2% on their investment, while upscale renovations return an average of 93.2%.

Belly Up to the Bar & Guest Post

While I will occasionally indulge in a nice cocktail, I've never been a huge liquor drinker (I'm more of a Pinot Grigio girl like Ramona). Thus, I've never really needed a bar cart . . . until now. I've finally found a reason to display my hooch proudly . . .  St-Germain.
Are you familiar with this French liqueur made from elderflower blossoms? I wasn't until just recently. It all started a little over a week ago when I tried a French Gimlet at a restaurant in Chattanooga. It was so nice and refreshing - a little gin, a little lime juice and a little St-Germain. After our exhausting yard sale Saturday, my sweet husband went out and gathered the ingredients to recreate it for me. Little did I know how beautiful (or huge) the St-Germain bottle was. It's like an art deco work of art.

And the French gimlet he made?
Delicious, if a little strong. The next one might need some tweaking. With such a beautiful bottle, it made me want a bar cart or at least a bar tray to bring out for special occasions (since I truly don't have the room for a full-time bar/bar cart). Here are some inspirations . . .
Love Lindsey Coral Harper's fun inspiration board behind her bar.
Classic
If only my bar cart came with a view of New York in the background.

Must have that tortoise-shell ice bucket.
All these bar carts might be enough to drive me to drink. Well, at least to have a well-stocked bar just in case I fancy a libation.

If you're interested in trying the French Gimlet for yourself, here is the very simple recipe from the St-Germain website:

French Gimlet

2 parts Gin or Vodka
1 part St-Germain
1/2 part freshly squeezed lime juice

Method: Pour all ingredients into an ice-filled shaker and shake well. Strain into a chilled martini glass. Garnish with a lime twist. Enjoy!

Also, today I'm guest blogging over at Meet Me in Philadelphia as sweet Ashley is on her honeymoon in Greece. Surely, you've visited her blog before as she is absolutely delightful and has wonderful style, but if not, it's the perfect time to pop over and check it out.

Happy Weekend

If you're looking for something to do this weekend, I highly recommend seeing Bridesmaids.
You will not regret it. Well, you might regret the abdominal pains from laughing so hard but it's worth it.

Oh, and I have this pillow (or one extremely similar) featured in Lillian's apartment in the movie.
I'm actually thinking of selling it tomorrow in the yard sale we're having. Did I mention that? Oh, yeah, our neighborhood is hosting a big yard sale tomorrow. Heaven help me. Mostly stuff that has been hanging around my house (mainly my garage and basement) for way too long. If you're in the Nashville/Franklin area and interested, just email me and I'll be happy to share the details.

Happy Weekend to you!

Bathroom is one of important room in the house, a good and functional bathroom design can improve the value of the house. Most of people want to design their bathroom in modern design, a modern bathroom design is a bathroom that designed in new, cozy, contemporary design while still keeping the function of each bathroom element. Are you in the process to design your bathroom? If you want to do so, you must be looking for some good, fresh and latest ideas of modern and contemporary bathroom designs. The sample pictures displayed must be the ones you are looking for as the designs have followed the latest and modern trend of bathroom designs. The combination of wall color, ceramics, lighting and choice of bathtubs, sinks, faucets indicates the post modernism of bathroom designs. So, make sure that one of the bathroom designs displayed becomes your best choice to remodel your bathroom. Let’s build it and you will see the proof.

Eco-friendly bathroom
Whether planning a new bathroom or remodeling one, creating an eco-friendly bathroom can be a money-saving option that's healthy for the environment and the people living in the home. Creating an eco-friendly bathroom begins with considering the toxicity of the products used to equip it, as well as the way those items are manufactured.
  • Consider using ceramic tile for floors, countertops and walls surrounding the tub and shower. Ceramic tile is less prone to damage from moisture, and its negative impact on the environment during the manufacturing process also is low. Some tiles are even made from recycled products, such as discarded bottle glass.
  • Install a low-flow shower head, and save money on water and energy bills over time. New models no longer drastically reduce water flow, and they typically use about 2 gallons of water per minute.
  • Save more water by installing an ultra-low flush toilet, which typically uses just over 1 gallon of water for flushing. Compare performance reviews before buying this type of toilet, because some models may clog. Dual-flush toilets have two knobs that allow users to conserve water by selecting the amount needed for flushing waste.

Modern Interior Design
Are you searching for information about modern interior design, above picture is one of sample interior decorating ideas in modern. Furniture, flooring, wall decoration, lighting design and all elements are look new and cozy. The quest for detailed and glamorous design has played a big part in modern interior design. The past years have changed trends and taste of people redesigning their homes and the influence of other culture has contributed on some of these designs. Here are several element that should be considering to arrange in order to get a modern looks in decorating a room.

Walls and Color

Of course, white has got to be the ultimate color for any self-respecting minimalist scheme.

But, you can opt for a softer look, by choosing warm neutrals and colors from nature. Try stone, beige, taupe, brown and even green. Your base colors should be ‘pale and interesting’ – but go for a splash of a bolder color for accents.

Your accents can be as little or as much as you like. Try a vase, or cushions for quite a subtle introduction to color, or a whole wall or sofa, for a bigger statement!

Only choose one color, or color group, for your accent color. Bright red is a good choice, or any other bright color. As an alternative, just choose a darker natural tone – a deep green or brown will always work well.

Furniture

Choose something simple and classy for your minimalist interior design look.

Plain, modern-looking furniture is ideal – in natural wood (especially dark wood), dark leather, white or bright colors, or chrome, glass, mirror and stainless steel.

Low level furniture will help with the modern look and minimalist feel in your room, as it is much less bulky!

Floors and Windows

Less is more with a minimalist style. Choose plain, wooden floors for a simple effect. But don’t forget to add a rug, for live-ability and style.

Try to keep your window treatments simple too. Bare windows, shutters and blinds will give a very minimal look, but you might feel happier softening up the look a touch. Choose simple, neutral curtains or white floaty voiles, for an easy look.

Accessories

Naturally, accessories are not a major part of a modern minimalist look. But don’t just sweep the shelves bare…! By all means clear out the clutter, and have a god sort out, but remember that your minimalist interior design look does need a few, well-chosen, carefully positioned accessories, to complete the look, and make your house into a home.

One large, very striking picture, painting or wall hanging will make a better statement than several smaller ones. Choose something you really love, and are proud to display as large as life in your home.

This picture will probably set the choice of accent color for the rest of your accessories – cushions, vases, candlesticks and lamps.

Limit yourself to only 1 or 2 accessories on each display surface. If you have special treasures you can put these into storage for a while, and display them in rotation.

Of course, managing your storage will be another big part of making a minimalist interior design scheme successful in your home, so think very carefully about what you need in your room, where you need it and how you will use it, before you invest in your storage solutions.

Maintaining a successful minimalist interior design scheme will take a little more work on your part. But the results are very satisfying – a beautiful, clean and tidy room, with a tranquil, soothing air – exactly the kind of room you want to relax into when you come home after a hard day…!
