Procrastination

While I should have been cleaning my house today, I decided to waste some time on Craigslist. I've actually sold some things on CL recently, but haven't looked at what's available to buy. You truly never know what you'll find. Like this . . .
A faux elephant tusk table with brass caps. I knew I had spotted something similar before, so, of course, I checked 1st Dibs. They have a similar console table available for a mere $7,500 . . .
And, here's one I found in the Atlantis Home blog lady's home . . .

It is definitely a unique look. Can't decide if I like it or not. Hmm. The Craigslist table is actually offered as a set with the cool mirrored credenza, mirrored planter and six chairs for $2,000. A little pricey for Craigslist, but probably a decent deal if this is your particular style. I can never understand why people won't sell items separately. Someone might like the mirrored credenza even if the tusk table isn't their thing.
Pretty
Some other Nashville CL finds . . .
Love the shape of this console table. Would be great in an entry or behind a sofa. Paint it the color of your choice.

This huge vintage Moroccan rug is a great deal ($200), especially considering it's 10'x20'.
There were also some nice side/occasional tables . . .
We had these same faux bamboo and glass side tables growing up. They're still in my parents' house.
Have you procrastinated by trolling through Craiglist lately? Am I the only one who does this?

Craig is Looking Good

Sorry, I was planning to post this on Thursday before I went out of town this weekend but Blogger had other ideas. During one of my recent Craigslist trolling sessions, I found some interesting pieces. First up, this Brutalist/Cubist-style mid-century dresser/credenza . . .
It looks to be a twin of Nelya's (of Head Over Heels) that Naomi (of Design Manifest) was lusting after . . .
I alerted Naomi to its presence, but alas it's too big for her space and she can't truck down to Tennessee to get it anyway. So, if anyone out there is looking for a cool piece, it's still available. A slight hitch - they're only selling it as a set (with a bed, highboy and bedside tables). Why people refuse to sell things separately is beyond me. Here is one of the bedside tables . . .
And speaking of bedside tables, I also spotted a pair of these up for sale . . .
which bear a striking resemblance to these on 1st Dibs . . .
And while we're on an Asian kick, I thought this little side table/cabinet was pretty cute . . .
I also saw some great mid-century modern chairs . . .

and barstools . . .
Lastly, some cool rugs.
Love the colors in this kilim rug. Where could I put this??
I usually see these in red, so cream is a nice change.

And last but not least, this handmade Greek rug. Just loved the colors . . .
So, have you found any great Craigslist goodies lately?

Only in Tennessee

Sorry, not trying to be a traitor to my state, but I found this today while scrolling through Nashville's Craigslist and had to share.

At first glance, it just looked like a generic leather sofa. No big deal.
But then I took a closer look.
Oh yes, you saw that right. Those are Jack Daniel's Whiskey barrels that make up the back of the sofa. This is not an optical illusion. Or a joke.

I guess the title of the listing should have been a clue, "Jack Daniel's Living Room Set." And the best part? The set is just $3900! Really? Wow, what a bargain. Oh, wait, it's a set . . . I've forgotten to show the chairs. Oh yes, there are matching chairs in case you were worried what would go with your new Jack Daniel's sofa.
Yet another view.  Classy.

In other Nashville Craigslist news, some lucky so-and-so got this sofa for FREE!
A 1970's Ethan Allen blue velvet sofa in pristine condition. Can you believe it? I saw it a few hours too late. Not that I needed this, but still. Free?! How can you pass that up? I hope it went to a good home.

I hope to report I'm the owner of some great CL finds in the near future. If the owners will ever email me back. Sometimes Craigslist gets on my nerves. There should be a code of ethics.

X Marks the Spot

First of all, I had a post about my need for X benches pretty much written in my mind and planned on putting it together this morning. Of course, I got distracted because my mother was still visiting and my kids are out of school for President's Day. So, I go about my day doing stuff around the house, hosting a play date, the usual. In between, I sneak a few blog reads when I see this . . .
My blog friend Bri over at Me, You and a Wiener found these X benches here in Nashville! I've been lusting after X benches for a while but actually started searching the internet in earnest for some over the weekend. So, where and when did she find these? On Craigslist. On Saturday. The same time and place I was looking, but she has got mad Craig skills. The benches are now hers. Finders keepers. I'm not bitter, just very jealous. She is aware of this.

I found these on eBay for $400 but someone purchased them for $600 at the "Buy It Now" price. Not that I wanted to pay that amount anyway. But these actually looked decent and I liked the coral velvet upholstery. Sigh.

Let's look at some fabulous examples of the elusive X bench I seek . . .

Angie Hranwosky does not mess around. Love this little number.

Meg Braff

Jonathan Adler, of course. And I know that I could buy a brand spanking new Jonathan Adler X benches for a mere $476 each (they're currently on sale!), but I'd rather not pay $1,000 for two.

Of course, there are always the ones at Ballard Designs.
But I would probably want to provide my own fabric which ups the price a bit up into the $250 - 300 (at least) each. Still a bit pricey.

So, where do I want to put these X benches? In my family room/living room/whatever you want to call it. Specifically, in that blank, empty, barren space between the coffee table and fireplace. I feel there's a void. My husband thinks it will be too cluttered. What? Too much furniture? Never. You can't really put anything big there and it is kind of a pass-through to get to the sliding glass doors (which will soon be replaced with French doors, both fingers crossed). And don't mind that random table to the right beside the sidelight window. I was moving furniture.
I know I need drapery, but I was waiting for new doors before I tackled the window treatment around them. Can't put the cart before the horse, right? Also, I realize there are people out there who hate TVs over fireplaces, but there seriously is not much of a choice with this layout. Once again, crazy builder.  Anyway, back to the space. Am I the only person who is bothered by the emptiness? By the lonely void in front of the fireplace?
See that brass coffee table? It's new. Craigslist. Who found it? Bri . . . I'm telling you, she's the queen of Craig. Stay tuned for a future possible collaboration between the two of us.
Forgive the lack of styling. I just got it on Friday.

Another option? Pushing the X benches under my sofa table/console. Of course, my table's a little small. Might need to find a different one. Maybe I should put Bri on the case.

So, what do you think? Could X benches solve my decorating dilemma? Or should I leave well enough alone?
